Moviegoers and more than a few critics found much to enjoy in this Disney film about a lost dog named Buddy. The canine is befriended by a lonely boy and proceeds to become the star of the kid's junior high school basketball team. Demonstrating an abundance of on- and off-court agility, Buddy can dribble like a pro (no, not the wet kind of dribble), and he never misses a shot. Michael Jeter plays Buddy's original owner who returns to get his dog back (don't worry, he's an unworthy weasel), and director Charles Martin Smith brings a refreshing flair to the climactic basketball scenes. Air Bud was a modest hit for Disney, and the film's entertaining vitality gets a touch of poignancy from the fact that Lucky, the canine actor in the title role, died of cancer not long after the film was released. --Jeff Shannon

This is a perfect movie for kids who like sports and animals. My son(4) loves this movie, we also have the soccer, football, and baseball versions of this movie. They are all great.

This movie is a wonderful addition to our family viewing library. It is an absolutely clean, safe, and totally enjoyable movie for the entire family, even the youngest members. My grandchildren and my husband and I have had a blast watching it together and the kids ask to see it over and over again. I highly recommend this as a fine family movie!

I think Air Bud is one of the finer movies Disney Studios has made. It's a refreshing change from the R-rated rot that is often flashed on the silver screen today. Anyone who has helped train hunters or has been around guide dogs can appreciate the willing intelligence coupled with the magnificent training of the star of the show.

Its a good thing I was 9 when I saw this, because if I had seen it now, I would have been gasping for air. Some smart visionary (uh huh) had an idea to completely dominate the direct-to-video market, and this is it.This is the main formula that has sinced fueled other cheesy "movies" in just a few variations: Lonely kid with cheap haircut finds stray/abused animal with super athletic powers. Surprisingly, both get on basketball/football/soccer/etc. team, animal steals show, boy is left in the dust, but his loneliness suddenly disappears...
