Sex and the City: The Complete Third Season

"Do we need drama to make a relationship work?" Carrie muses at one point. Sex and the City needs drama to make it work, and Parker and Cynthia Nixon (as career woman Miranda), this ensemble's better half, give the show its pulsating heart as they wrestle with commitment and, in the episode "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," sadder-but-wiser breakups. On the lighter side, the sexual dalliances of "rude and politically incorrect" Samantha (Kim Cattrall) provide great fodder for comedy. Like I Love Lucy, the series benefited from a brief change of scenery with a three-episode jaunt to Los Angeles, where Carrie and company encountered, among others, Matthew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, Hugh Hefner, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. At its best, to quote one character, Sex and the City is "sharp, edgy, brutal at times, always a little juicy." It may be "very New York," but the sex and relationship issues it tackles are universal. For its devoted fans, the release of this 18-episode, three-disc set is, to quote Gellar's clueless Hollywood junior development exec, "chick flick big." --Donald Liebenson

Sans conteste, cette troisieme saison est l'un des meilleurs crus de la serie. Carrie y rencontre l'homme presque parfait ; Miranda, eternelle insatisfaite, fait de curieuses rencontres ; Samantha deprime ; et Charlotte, qui a decide de se marier avant la fin de l'annee, rencontre enfin son prince charmant. Mais il y a parfois baleine sous rocher avec les princes charmants… Tromperies, largages en tout genre, dechirements, culpabilite, ruptures, mariages rates et contrats reussis, le viagra etudie a la loupe par la pro du sexe qu'est Samantha, l'utilite des sexologues, bref, tous les sujets passent a la moulinette politiquement incorrecte de Sex and the City. Cette serie est, une fois encore, une bouffee de realisme sur les relations amoureuses des trentenaires exigeantes. Trop, peut-etre ? --Aurelie Rochman

I can't decide which season I like the most. With every season, there is that episode that really stands out, but so far every season has been good, and they keep getting better. I know this is a series I will watch for years to come and I'm happy it's out on DVD.

Sex and the City is a DVD must have for today's modern woman... and man. My boyfriend and I are both fans of the show and besides being a good laugh, it opens up a lot of conversation about things we normally wouldn't talk about. I especially love it for girls' night in, so I can gather all my friends in my dorm room and enjoy it toghether.... over and over again!

In a time where good television shows are few and far between, one learns to appreciate the genius of the HBO networks' hit TV shows. Prime time and "Late Nite" TV were formerly dominated by the "main networks": ABC, NBC, CBS, etc... That was until HBO got in on the action. With shows like Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the Sopranos, HBO is probably the leading purveyor of good TV today. Sex and the City is probably one of its most enjoyable shows. So that's saying something. As a teenage straight guy, I was definitely a late comer to the series, as, well, let's just say the male heterosexual 18-25 year-old market is not one that Sex and the City is a major factor in. But it damn well should be. This show is written BRILLIANTLY, and takes turns at being both hillarious and touching. It even makes me like Sarah Jessica Parker, and I haven't liked her since "LA Story". Each of the girls has something different to offer us as viewers. Carrie (Parker) keeps us moving from scenario to scenario, Samantha (Kim Cattral) is a single-and-loving-it type that provides much of the sexual humor, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon)is endearing if not a little pathetic, and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is just simply adorable. Not many shows make me yell at the screen or cheer while I'm watching, but after just two episodes, even I was starting to feel anxiety watching Carrie and Big tip-toe around their issues. Anyone who appreciates great writing and originality will love this show. Also, I have to tip my hat to the people writing the show, and especially the corporate execs at HBO for having the ... to go out while they're still relatively on top. That doesn't happen very often in today's profit-hungry entertainment industry! (I'm looking at you Wachowski brothers) I don't know what to expect from the final 8 episodes, but I do know when that 8th episode rolls around, the day after it is gonna be a very emotional one for the thousands of devoted fans that this show has captured the hearts of.

best season of SATC. Its the one when carrie cheats on Aiden.
